Lanterns shine a light on festival traditions

With the Spring Festival on its way, the happiest time of the year approaches. Many people will go to the park, enjoy the lanterns and guess the lantern riddles during the holiday. Are you ready to join the celebrations of this most important Chinese holiday?

Illuminated ancient town

Nanxiang Old Town will be lit. In addition to a red lantern show, the wish tree and a lantern riddle party, there will be boats decorated with colorful lanterns and floating lanterns on the Hengli River. Guyi Garden, built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), will extend its opening hours on February 10-17 and visitors can enjoy the lanterns and guess the riddles. Large and medium-sized lantern sets and thousands of different shaped lanterns will let visitors feel as if they were in the ancient times. There will be a total of  2,104 interesting riddles and visitors can win prizes if they get the right answers.

Energetic auto city

The energetic Shanghai International Auto City has prepared a series of celebration activities for visitors. The biggest event will be the New Year lantern show at the Citizens Square. Visitors can also appreciate folk art performance like sugar drawing, dough figurines and shadow play, as well as join interactive games.

Charming Zhouqiao

The historic Zhouqiao Scenic Area gathers a number of scholars, writers and poets who will write poems and discuss tea culture during the Spring Festival holiday. People can take part in the activities by sending their New Year’s blessings and there’s also a  “happy families” award ceremony.
