Local residents like to see the sights
JIADING residents like to go sightseeing, with 53.8 percent of them taking at least one trip in 2012, according to the Jiading Statistics Bureau, with almost half of them spending between 5,000 yuan (US$794) and 10,000 yuan.
The disposable income of urban and rural residents rose 11.6 percent and 11.7 percent to 33,222 yuan and 19,429 yuan respectively, the bureau said.
Expenditure on housing for urban and rural residents was 2,120 yuan and 2,092 yuan per capita, around 60 percent higher than 2011.
In addition, residents also spent a lot on decorations to improve their living conditions. Residents spent an average of 3,584 yuan on transport, mainly on buying cars.
They spent an average of 8,158 yuan on food, a 15.5 percent rise over 2011, with more than 30 percent dining out more than once a week.
Food safety scandals across the nation pushed up expenditure on healthcare, medical treatment and medicines. Expenditure on these items rose unexpectedly up to the third place among various expending of the household.
Another major expense was education. About 8 yuan in every 100 yuan earned by residents was spent on the children's education.
