Lots to do during Spring Festival

TO create a healthy and interesting Spring Festival, Jiading District offers its residents a variety of cultural events.

On February 5, a comedy called "Fortune Index" will be played and on January 30, a Xiju opera will be performed at the district's culture center.

Besides, a photography show of the 10th Shanghai International Art Festival and an exhibition welcoming World Expo 2010 will be held around the festival.

During the Spring Festival, people can enjoy original Chinese customs in different communities in the district.

To add more fun, a winter swimming contest will be held on January 30. Other sports activities including basketball, football, bowling and badminton will also be available to all residents in the district.

In fact, as early as January 19, famous comedians Yan Shunkai, Qian Cheng and Chen Guoqing performed in the district. They won repeated applause.

"I'm so happy to see so many professional performances being played by famous local actors and actresses in our district," said a resident surnamed Wang.

"In a high spirit, we welcome the new year with an abundance of cultural events held by the district's culture and sports authority."

The 2009 Shanghai Guyi Garden riddle guessing festival was launched on January 23. On the very night, the garden of 480 years old was decorated with colorful neon lights.

The event will continue through the middle of next month, during which paintings, calligraphies, lanterns and craftworks will also be displayed. Visitors can also eat stuffed dumplings made of glutinous rice flour served in soup from the 13th day of the first lunar month to the 15th day.
