Lotus blooms in winter? Come see for yourself
WOULDN'T it be an exciting experience to see lotus flowers blooming in winter?
The idea is really inspiring to me, and thanks to the efforts of staff at Chenjiashan Park, which recently opened, the idea has become a reality. Jiading residents can now feast their eyes on a newly imported species of lotus flowers that bloom in the depths of winter instead of summer.
Chenjiashan Park, flanking the Hengli River, covers more than 20,000 square meters in the Beishuiwan area of Jiading. About two-thirds of the park is blanketed in green. With contemporary touches, the park has retained many aspects of local history and culture to stress the idea of harmony between man and nature.
Refreshed by a gentle zephyr, I visited the park before an autumn sunset. Since the park is still under construction, the wooden doors at the entrance look a bit small at first glance. But when walking inside, I found a spacious beautiful world.
A flagstone walkway cutting across a lawn took me to the Lotus Flower Pond. Although the lotus flowers are already gone, I could still feel their summer charm in my mind. Spanning the pond is a small wooden bridge. Its rustic look paints a picture of ecological beauty.
At the sunset, the people living nearby like to stroll around the park and enjoy a beautiful evening.
Since the park is a reconstruction project, efforts have been made to preserve its historical and cultural landscapes dating back to the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
Water and wooded landscapes highlight the area. The Lotus Flower Pond occupies a dominant position in the park, while the long waterfront platforms along the Hengli River afford comfortable viewing spots.
Growing in the park are gingko trees, evergreen and deciduous arbors, vines, flowers, and other choice species of plants. The roots of the Chinese pagoda tree suggest the shapes of small animals in a charming way.
This park is a monument to energy-saving and environmentally friendly concepts. All the lamps are solar-powered. Do visit the park in winter. The charming lotuses will await you.
