Majority of environmental construction projects completed
JIADING District has completed 58 of 100 environmental construction projects and 25 of 32 municipal-level projects in the last three years. This year marks the conclusion of the fourth round of the three-year environmental protection plan.
Shugou Water Protection Zone in Huating Town in Jiading District provides raw water to water plants across the district. The district highlights its protection of the water resources site in the three-year plan by analyzing pollutant sources and assessing environmental quality.
The district's environmental protection department tracks 10 venture businesses to supervise their sewage discharge, usage and storage of hazardous materials every month and will set up a database for them. The district will eliminate those enterprises posing severe pollution to water resources. Two enterprises have been shut down in the protection area last year. In March, the district established an automatic monitoring station for real-time supervision of surface water.
Workers are currently installing waste pipes on more than 10 roads in Jiading New City. The district has put a total of 40 kilometers of sewage pipes into use and aims to build a pipe network.
The district plans to build 163 kilometers of sewage pipe networks within three years, 110 kilometers of which have already been finished. Another 1,400 households benefit from the sewage pipes. By the end of last year, the district's waste water treatment rate had hit 81 percent with the rate topping 100 percent in major industrial zones.
"The district has formed a basic framework for the sewage pipe network after years of construction," said Chen Bo, deputy director of Jiading Bureau of Water Resources. "We'll intensify the network in the future to enhance the efficiency of sewage collection."
Jiading has built 16 district-level recycling economy model enterprises during the past three years and a recycling network for electronic waste. The district also boosted mandatory examination of clean production for heavy polluting industries such as galvanization and chemical engineering.
