Malu Town grape growers again reap bumper harvest
Grape farmers had a fruitful summer this year as their newly developed Malu grapes have proven popular among Shanghai residents.
Malu Town agriculture department officials say they are still calculating the total sales volume of Malu grapes, but surely they have got another good harvest this year.
The volume of online sales alone reached 360,000 yuan (US$59,000).
According to the officials, the government helped 10 agricultural cooperatives register a website to sell the grapes at the beginning of this year.
So far more than 150 kilograms of grapes are sold online every day, said Chen Qing, the website's operator.
The website classifies grapes by type and production area.
More than 200 different grape products are on sale and daily clicks have reached an average of 10,000.
The good sale results from the grapes’ high quality, according to market analysts. This year many farmers have updated their planting techniques from the Malu Grapes Research Institute.
