Many ‘faces’ at oil painting exhibition
FACE” is the theme of the fourth Shanghai Small Oil Painting Exhibition, encouraging people to show their faces on the canvas.
“Face” is a quite broad concept. A city could be a face; a forest and some wooden houses could be a face; the wet fog in the South China or the flying snow in the North China, either could be a face. All in all, the “face” is your own aesthetic choice.
An appreciation of beauty is very important for a painter. It’s a choice, a direction and a judgment. It will bring people to a special position of art. Therefore, a painter has to train his own aesthetic judgment and avoid to be stuck in a low-level of art appreciation.
What to paint is actually not that important. What matters is how to paint. Throughout the history, artists have always depicted historic events, ordinary life and love stories.
Living in the city influences aesthetic choices. The shining lights, various sculptures and colorful advertisements provide good subjects. Because of different environments and different feelings, there are different aesthetic choices.
The modern city has its glorious history, while the mountains and springs outside the city show the beauty of nature.
