Massage store a tribute to Chen

Chen’s Family Massage Store reopened recently, after its previous owner Chen Jiwen died last month. Chen was known as one of the “Jiading Good People.”

In his 89 years of life, he had been voluntarily serving local residents with massage skills for free for seven decades, during which he had provided services to more than 1.2 million people.

It has been a family principle to uphold virtues of benevolence and Chen’s two sons decided to take over the responsibility and let the good deed be extended.

They are already busy with the cause at the store, even when other people tried to convince them to take a longer break.

People keep lining up at the massage store, but they are keen not only to be served, but also to serve.

More volunteers have joined the store. Now there are four people rotating each day to help with errands such as recording visitors and keeping things in order.

They used to get massage from Chen. “I’m deeply moved by Chen and that’s why I have come to volunteer,” said Xu Qinfang, one of the volunteers.
