Medical team saves lives in Morocco

A Jiading medical team offering treatment in Africa,  was honored in Beijing recently as one of China’s advanced medical aid groups.

In October 2010, the team returned from a two-year support mission in Morocco.

The team treated 42,464 out-patients and 7,996 hospital patients. It has conducted 14,100 operations and saved the lives of 187 critically ill patients.

The team also conducted many difficult surgical operations there. Its efforts won praise from the Morocco’s government and its people, who called them “angels.”

Zheng Guanzhong, chief of the urological department of Jiading District Central Hospital, was appointed the team leader.

During his mission in Morocco, he saved the life of an old man who was in a serious condition because of urine retention. After a quick but careful physical examination, he carried out surgery and saved the life of the patient.

Zhao Jiang, a young anesthetist in the team also helped to save the life of a local person who was suffering a giant oral tumor. Before the risky surgery, the patient told Zhao in Arabic that he would not blame him even though the surgery failed, and that Zhao would be welcome at his funeral.

The surgery was a great success. “The trust of patient is the biggest motivation for me,” Zhao said.
