Metro line construction continues

CONSTRUCTION on the second phase of north section of Metro Line 11 and the first phase of Metro Line 13 has started. Jiading residents may find it more convenient to take lines 11 and 13 to the city's downtown area and the Pudong New Area.

The second phase of north section of Line 11 between Jiangsu Road and Luoshan Road stations, covering about 21.5 kilometers, is now under construction and expected to be finished next year. It will link the city's northwest part to the downtown area with 13 underground stations. Line 11 will connect Line 16 to form a public transportation artery in Shanghai with a total length of more than 100 kilometers.

Line 11 links Jiading District auto hub and Formula One racetrack in the city's northwest with the downtown area. Due to the considerable distance of the line, trains are designed to travel at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, making it the fastest underground urban railway line in China today.

Passengers heading from Jiading to the Pudong New Area will be able to transfer to Line 9 at Xujiahui station or to lines 6 and 8 at Jiyang Road station.

The first phase of Line 13 is 16.4 kilometers long. It has three stops along 4 kilometers' track in Jiading District, connecting the suburban Jiading District with downtown Jing'an District. These three stops have been under construction since April last year. According to the schedule, the construction on the west section including Jiading part for the first phase will be finished by the end of 2012, while the east section is expected to be open to the public by 2015.
