Microblogs are the new rages

WEIBO, or microblogging, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, is sweeping Jiading District.

From households to businesses to government agencies, more and more people are using microblogs to communicate.

The Jiading Public Security Bureau opened its own microblog account last month, believed to be the first of its kind in Shanghai. On the first day, it had 10,000 followers.

The bureau mainly posts advice and notices related to security and fraud prevention. It also posts details about criminal suspects, seeking help from netizens in their capture.

Qian Qing is a policeman in the Jiading Industrial Zone. He posts his daily job schedule on his own microblog. Targeting young people, he selects humorous items to post and includes alerts of public interest. Qian said he wants to expand his microblog into a mediation platform to deal with community disputes.

He Chunxia, a teacher in Jiading, uses her microblog to tell students about school activities and post education materials.
