More lanes for the Huyi Highway, and more greenery too

Work is to start soon on changes to Huyi Highway that will include more greenery and moving overhead lines underground.

Huyi Highway crosses the whole Jiading District and is part of the National Highway 204. The last major work was done in 1999.

The section involved in this project will be from the end point of the S6 or Shanghai-Nanxiang Expressway in the south to Yecheng Road in the north. The highway will be expanded to six lanes compared to its previous four with a speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour. Non-motorized vehicle lanes and pedestrian ways will also be added.

Cement blocks on the highway will be replaced by greenery and two scenic bridges will be added at the Yuanxiang Lake crossing.

Traffic police are drafting plans for traffic controls during the renovation but say that it is unlikely the highway will be closed to allow the work to proceed. The most likely scenario is the closing of one lane in each direction.
