Moyu Road a support base for Expo cars
THE use of new energy cars is one of the highlights at Expo Shanghai.
In order to keep the 1,000 cars running, Shanghai established three new energy car centers for the Expo and the Jiading base on Moyu Road is one of them.
The base comprises a dispatch group, vehicle support group and ground support group.
Organizations involved include Tongji University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Volkswagen, Changchun First Automobile Works, Chongqing Chang'an, Wuhu Chery, and SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Cooperation) Group. The Jiading base has 40 fuel battery cars mainly for guest reception.
Every car has to go through 10 procedures after every assignment. A large screen in a remote monitoring room displayed a map of Shanghai that identified all the new energy cars running in the city.
At the same time, all the data, including speed, power and water temperature of each car could be displayed on another screen.
"When the drivers are concentrated on driving, they may miss certain problems, so the staff can advise them when they are monitoring the cars," said Wang Hongwu, a worker in the monitoring room.
The fuel battery car can run 300 kilometers after it's charged, with the highest speed of 150 kilometers an hour.
So far, the 40 cars have run 20,000 kilometers in total, and there's been no major accident.
Compare to the Expo site, it's more complicated when driving outside.
There are more uncertain factors, so the manufacturer record the data carefully and accumulate first-hand information."
After the Expo, some new energy cars will be used for certain bus lines, and this is an excellent exploration of the commercial market.
