Naming of parks completed

The naming of 45 green lands and parks in Jiading District has been completed after 792 suggestions were received from local residents.

The names of some old parks have been preserved to recall the local’s memories, such as the park at the junction of Tacheng Road and Xicheng River South Street which has 10 gingko trees older than 200 years.

Locals used to call it Xiaohekou (literally meaning “at the mouth of a river”) Gingko Park.

“The name has been in use for a long time, and it was also used in most historical materials, so it was widely known in Jiading, even in Shanghai,” Yuan Huiqing, deputy director of Jiading Greening Management Office, said.

The naming of some parks and green lands also introduces visitors to the rich history of Jiading, such as the Pantuozi Park.

The park is famous as it dates back to the Southern Song Dynasty (420-479 AD). Last year the Pantuozi Relics were restored and Pantuozi Park was set up in Juyuan New Area.
