Neighbors in harmony example of festive spirit
Neighbors gathered at Lu Xiufen’s house to make zongzi, a traditional treat of the Dragon Boat Festival, during the Jiading Harmonious Neighbor Festival.
“Doing domestic chores is daily work for us, and we do it together for fun,” Lu said. She holds similar activities every week to eat, dance, exercise and chat.
She helps neighbors get along with each other.
Two women surnamed Chen and Zhang, both in Lu’s village, once had some disputes over planting crops, since when they didn’t talk to each other. Lu invited them to attend her weekly activities, and their contradictions vaporized and their relationship is now much better than it was.
In Jiading Town, a variety of games are held for residents at its Harmonious Neighbor Center and a fun meeting that included catching noodles with chopsticks attracted over 150 residents.
“These kind of games are not only for fun but also get people together,” a woman surnamed Gu said.
The activities attract old and young people alike.
At Qinfu community, more than 40 young parents brought their children to the Automobile Expo Park for a family day activity recently.
Local resident Wang Fei said through the games she has got to know a lot of neighbors of a similar age and learned a lot of parenting skills.
“The activities broadened my circle, and I started to pay attention to affairs in neighborhood since then,” she said.
