New and improved hotline opens for service
THE 12345 public service hotline in Shanghai began its test run on October 8. It merged more than 230 hotlines into one.
12345 is a non-emergency public service hotline, mainly offering citizens information on various government policies, public information consultations, and helping them out of the difficulties in living or production.
Citizens can also lodge complaints about public services through this hotline.
Hotline operators at the call center can provide answers to questions according to information in the knowledge base. Questions that cannot be handled are transferred to regional hotline offices and relevant departments will respond in due course.
In accordance with the provisions, replies to general issues should be given within one working day, complicated issues within three working days and extremely difficult issues within 10 working days.
During the test run, the hotline is open daily from 8am to 8pm, and later it will provide full-time service and launch fax, e-mail, message and video call services as well.
For emergency situations citizens still should dial 110 for police, 119 for fire and 120 for ambulance.
