New e-trading company launched

a NEW business entity has been set up in Jiading District to help e-commerce enterprises import goods from overseas. The Shanghai Jiading Gateway Trade Co Ltd is designed to provide Shanghai consumers with better prices and service when buying imported goods online.
The new company has a registered capital of 10 million yuan (US$1.57 million). In March, the company decided to invest over 6 million yuan in buying equipment and renovating a warehouse.
It took Jiading Gateway only 10 months to complete the first trial order after Jiading Export Processing Zone was approved by Shanghai Customs as a test area for cross-border e-commerce on November 20 last year.
The new platform is set to attract more e-commerce businesses to set up in Jiading. And e-commerce across the border is set to become another emerging industry for the district.
Cross-border e-commerce trade volume is expected to reach 6.5 trillion yuan in 2016. The Ministry of Commerce expects the sector to account for 20 percent of China鈥檚 total trade, and deliver an annual growth of over 30 percent.
Jiading Gateway鈥檚 2,800-square-meter warehouse is in the Jiading Export Processing Zone.
鈥淲e have made everything ready and it is only one step away from moving into formal operation,鈥 said Jiading Gateway chairman Xu Ruixiang. Xu is also deputy general manager of Jiading Export Processing Zone.
On September 30, Jiading Gateway did a pressure test, in which 695 orders were completed in six hours, setting a new record in operation proficiency for cross-border e-commerce platforms.
So far, more than 30 enterprises have confirmed to join Jiading Gateway鈥檚 platform, including the top Chinese e-commerce firm JD.com.
Shanghai is one of the six cross-border e-commerce test cities, the others being Hangzhou, Ningbo, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou and Chongqing.
