New industry strategy

JIADING District has adopted a strategy to improve its industrial structure, developing modern service industries and eliminating polluting, high-energy use and obsolete enterprises. Hub areas of similar enterprises are promoted.
In the first half of the year, Jiading attracted foreign investment of US$330 million.
Prominent projects include a Sheraton Hotel, Shanghai Book City and the Wanda International Cinema. All will be completed in the next few years.
The quality of projects is a top consideration in investment approval. The Jiading Industrial Zone added new companies such as Shanghai Automobile Gear Works, the Mann-Hummel China headquarters and an Industrial and Commercial Bank of China data center in the first half of this year.?
Recently, Hanwha L&C (Shanghai) Co started the second phase of construction. The company's trading arm will move in next year and annual sales are forecasted at 500 million yuan (US$73.602 million).
As it grows, Jiading is weeding out older, obsolete or polluting industries. The district axed 100 enterprises in the first half of the year, clearing 53 hectares for industrial use.
In Nanxiang Town, 144 unqualified companies were closed, freeing up 120 hectares. In Xuhang Town, the heavy polluter Dehong Industry & Trade Co was relocated and replaced by clean industries.
