New residential projects begin to take shape

JIADING District government and Shanghai CRED Real Estate Co signed a letter of intent recently to start construction of Huangdu residential community. According to the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), Jiading will build four major residential areas.
The Huangdu residential community is next to several major transport routes, with a total land area of 4.26 square kilometers and a proposed residential area of 2.32 million square meters. In September, construction of apartments for low-income people and families relocated due to urban infrastructure construction will begin. The total area will amount to 500,000 square meters, which will be completed by the end of 2014.
The residential community will be equipped with health care, culture, business and entertainment facilities. Metro Line 14, to be completed in the next few years, will provide more convenient transport to the community.
Steady progress
The other three residential projects in Jiangqiao, Nanxiang and Chengbei are progressing smoothly, with a total investment of 8.75 billion yuan (US$1.38 billion), including building 95 roads and over 100 supporting facilities.
During the past three years from 2009 to 2011, a total of 2.2 million square meters, including 1.5 million sqm for affordable houses and 0.7 million sqm for resettlement houses, were completed. As for the year of 2012, Jiading will build new homes of 680,000 square meters.
Nanxiang Town recently opened its fourth primary school. The two major residential communities that are currently under construction in town will increase the area's population by 114,000. Therefore the town is stepping up the construction of education, medical and commercial facilities.
According to Jiading's 12th Five-Year Plan, the apartments for low-income families will increase the district's population by 350,000.
