New systems help mums-to-be cope amid summer rush
JIADING Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital is in its first summer after being relocated to Jiading New Town from the ancient town ? and the daily flow of expecting mothers has increased by nearly 100 comparing with previous seasons.
The hospital is now at 1216 Gaotai Road.
More families choose to have a child this year as traditionally it's believed this year, the Dragon Year, is auspicious and having a "dragon baby" is lucky.
In summer, many mothers-to-be like to go to the hospital in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat, but it also leads to long queues in the morning. With such hot weather and crowds, the hospital now takes various measures to protect expectant mothers from unnecessary annoyances.
"We have added more staff in out-patient department, and started to work at 7am, one hour earlier than before," said Lu Yongfen, director of the department. The hospital has canceled the noon break from 11:30am to 1pm to serve the pregnant women, Lu added.
The hospital has also launched a new One-Card service. When the would-be-mothers first visit the hospital they can get a card and deposit some money into it. Then, for their follow-up visits the would-be mothers just need to swipe the card to skip registration and payment procedures. In peak hours it can save them about 30 minutes of waiting.
There are volunteers who arrive at the hospital at 8:30am every day to help maintain order and assist patients, according to Lu.
