New works help old city

WHILE Jiading New City is taking on a fresh look with beautiful scenery, its urban reconstruction is having an impact on the old town.
Qiliang Road is scheduled to be broadened and linked to Chengzhong Road and Jinsha Road.
Xu Yida, chief architect of Jiading New City, said reconstruction of Qiliang Road can relieve traffic pressure at the old town.
"New planning for the old town is meaningful to both the old town and the new city,'' Xu said.
Included already in the urban construction plan of Jiading New City are cultural facilities such as a library, a theater and a culture center.
In its main area, four centers, including a Labor and Technology Center, Youth Activity Center, Science and Technology Center and Jiading Urban Planning Center, are planned for an area of 14,000 square meters.
At the old town, a new Jiading Museum will be ready within the year.
Also, a 4,000-seat indoor stadium is in the design phase and construction will start soon.
The old stadium will be retained as an exercise center for residents.
Jiading Cultural Center at the intersection of Meiyuan Road and Qinghe Road will become a new recreational landmark in the old town.
Jiading General Trade Union will move to Jiading New City and its original location will be converted into a large business area for shopping and entertainment.
Also, Qin's Garden and Jiang's Garden at the Zhouqiao scenic spot will be re-planned to restore their classic style.
