Nissan Leaf honored as 'green car of the year'
JIADING District hosted the sixth Congress of China Auto Journalists this month.
Journalists from more than 300 automotive media across China attended the congress.
The theme of the conference was the media's role in the development of the auto industry in China.
During the congress, awards were announced honoring excellence in the green car industry. There were 92 green car models, 24 research and development centers and 20 industry leaders vying for awards.
The "Green Car of the Year China" award went to the Nissan Leaf electric car.
Jiading has taken a leading role in development of new energy vehicles in China.
To date, the district has invested 1.6 billion yuan to build an industrial base for new energy vehicles and parts.
As part of its next phase, Jiading is planning to build an international demostration area for new energy vehicles.
To attract overseas talent, preferential policies on subsidies and housing will be provided by the local government.
A minimum of 300 million yuan will be invested in three years.
In the second half, Jiading will invest one billion yuan to build a research and development high-technology port covering 150,000 square meters.
The port, scheduled for completion in 2012, will be home to 150 companies related to the auto industry.
