Old factories make transition to new industry

JIADING'S old factories have been well preserved during the urbanization transition and some have been renovated to serve the tertiary industry.
One such is Nanxiang Zhidi Headquarters Park which evokes a touch of history with its red brick and ivy.
The place has been home to old factories such as Shanghai Electric Appliance of Machine Tools Factory, Shanghai Shenxing Pharmaceutical Factory and later let to more than 30 small enterprises.
After buy-back by Nanxiang Town, it was renovated to cater for the filmmaking and multimedia industry. Eighty percent of 150 registered enterprises already have settled in the park. The total output value of the original 30 enterprises was 80 million yuan (US$11.76 million). But now a single company could achieve a minimum of 100 million yuan.
At Shanghai Feicheng Creative Industry Park, a building materials shopping mall now stands over the area used to be occupied by old factories. There's also another building for the Jiading District Entrepreneurship Base for University Students, a Honda 4S store and several office blocks.
