Old favorite sweet fruit reappears in Jiading

Jinlingzi, a yellow fruit in the shape of bitter gourd, has been reintroduced to Jiading after seeds were brought in from neighboring Zhejiang Province.
The fruit is still in the promotional stage and the planting area is still small after a long absence. The fruit, with a golden skin and red flesh, has a naturally sweet taste. It is available in Lijiang Ecological Park in Jiading.
Years ago it was very popular, not only because of its good taste, but also because of its medical effect for kids. Children who took bath with the water soaked with its vines will soon get their heat come down.
But as the pace of urbanization accelerated, the fruit gradually disappeared from the fields in Jiading. Lijiang Ecological Park had initially planned to add this plant to the park, not for sale but for its golden appearance, which will make the park more attractive. When the fruit gets matured, many visitors liked it very much and said they wanted to buy more to take home and share with others.
Even so, the park didn’t plant it in large scale as once the fruit matures it goes rotten overnight.
Some luxury hotels and restaurants have begun to serve the fruit with each one costing around 20 yuan (US$3.25).
The fruit is very easy to plant so long as the temperature is suitable.
