One-armed champion serves up happiness

CHEN Yao, 47, lost an arm 14 years ago due to an accident at work, but now he?s a table tennis champion of the disabled teams in Jiading.

His family and friends encouraged him to pick up the faith in life by playing ping pong with him.

"At first, I doubted whether I could do it well, but when I hit the ball and saw it fall on the opposite table, I believed that I could," he said.

In this way Chen had found a new joy in life, which had greatly helped to regain his confidence in his life.

"Maybe I'm fated to play table tennis," Chen recalled.

Later Chen volunteered at his community trying to bring happiness into the lives of other disabled people.

Hearing that Jiading planned to set up more community clubs for disabled people, Chen got an idea of setting up a table tennis team.

The first team was formed in March in Jiangqiao, and around 10 people joined.

"I plan to set up other teams of chess game and art performance in the future to attract more disabled people to enjoy a healthy and happy life," Chen said, cheerfully.
