Overseas shopping now easier
E-commerce is coming up with new ways of making it easier to purchase goods from abroad.
Marco Polo E-commerce Co Ltd, based in Jiading Export Processing Zone, recently sealed a deal with a Canadian chateau famous for its wine.
The e-commerce company negotiated a deal with the chateau to develop a WeChat account where customers can view products at the chateau and then order them to be picked up at the company’s bonded warehouse in Jiading, where the chateau’s stock is already stored for Chinese consumers.
The logistic process is monitored through MPCC, Marco Polo’s cross-border e-commerce comprehensive service system. The platform is also responsible for product registration and procurement.
The measure has benefits for the company, the chateau and consumers.
The tax for cross-border e-commerce is 21 percent, down from the previous 60 percent in postage tax. So the platform can save consumers 40 yuan (US$6) on a bottle of wine worth 100 yuan.
Delivery time is also shortened as direct delivery from the warehouse is cut to three days rather than the 15 days shipping from abroad.
Customs clearance and inspection procedures are already completed in advance and customers can easily buy again on the platform at the same time.
Commodity reliability is guaranteed through blockchain technology. With such a measure, the data on the platform is constantly updated and verified, yet impossible to tamper with.
Connected to the platform with guarantee from such technology are the public service platform of Shanghai cross-border e-commerce, Shanghai Branch of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, third-party payments and other service providers.
