Patents are driving economic growth for Jiading companies
JIADING companies are trying to increase their competitiveness with their unique products. They put forward 27 patents hoping to be industrialized. However, only 10 of them have been selected by the Jiading government.
Enterprises and individuals in Jiading filed 2,425 patent applications in the first eight months this year, of which 1,773 cases have been licensed by the national patent bureau.
In recent years, the numbers of the patent applications and the patents nationally licensed have both grown by an average of 20 percent. Moreover, the industrial output value of patented products from 20 high-tech enterprises, which boasting their output value of 1 billion yuan (US$157.46 million) each, has exceeded 10 billion yuan.
Shanghai Zhongxi Pharmaceutical (Group) Co Ltd has filed an application to become a patent pilot company in the city these days.
"Our company was making products such as gentamicin injection liquid a couple of years ago, which was widely available on the market," said Tan Bo, an employee with the company's research and development department. "It had very low profitability and no competitiveness in the market."
The company then increased spending on research and several patents were commercialized.
Aripiprazole tablets, one of the drugs made by Zhongxi Pharmaceutical, saw a 50 percent sales jump from 2008 to 48 million yuan in 2010.
Zhongxi Pharmaceutical has applied for and received 10 patents related to Aripiprazole by the end of June.
Sales revenue from Zhongxi Pharmaceutical's patented products rose 122 percent from 32.18 million yuan in 2009 to 71.48 million yuan in 2010.
