Peach blossoms lure lovers of color from everywhere
A SPRING outing has become a popular pursuit for the people of Jiading. They love to go to the countryside with their friends and relatives and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
It was also common in ancient times that Jiading residents sought relaxing spring locations and colorful scenes.
There have been many famous poems over the past 500 years describing the charm and beauty of the season.
In the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Chen Hang, a native of Jiading, wrote poems to describe the season and eulogized about the popularity of spring travel.
From the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, there were many blossoming peaches planted along the both sides of the Loutang River.
Each spring, the blossoms attracted many visitors, and some ventured far from home to enjoy the colors.
The Loutang Old Town was famous for its peaches, so it earned the name of Peach Brook and became a popular place for artists.
Loutang River was considered one of the most desirable spring destinations for 300 to 400 years.
However, during the period between the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was a battlefield, and at the end of Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), it became a battle zone again. The peach trees were ruined and the fields became farmland. But more attractions in the Jiading town have been developed for spring outings since 1949.
