Per capita income chalks up 8%
THE per capita annual income of urban and rural households in Jiading District reached 24,020 yuan (US$3,517) and 13,630 yuan respectively last year, an increase of 8 percent and 8.3 percent over 2008.
Wages were the main force driving the increase.
Last year, wages income of urban and rural households reached 14,388 yuan and 10,625 yuan respectively, increasing by 9.2 percent and 8.4 percent over 2008.
The monthly salary of Sun Guodong, a Nanxiang resident, grew from 1,800 yuan to 3,500 yuan in his first job after graduation last year. His yearly income increased by around 20,000 yuan.
Meanwhile, unemployment and retirement were the main causes of income reduction to some residents.
Urban household consumption in Jiading increased steadily. Last year, it reached 15,361 yuan per capita, increasing by 8.7 percent over 2008. The per capita rural household's consumption was 10,176 yuan, increasing by 9.6 percent.
"People have higher living demands than before. We've got money and are willing to spend it,'' said Sun, whose family bought a new apartment of 80 square meters recently at Jiading New City.
"Each month I have to pay a loan of 3,000 yuan. My family is capable of paying it."
