Perfect grain at the touch of a button

AS summer temperatures soar, workers in Jiading’s granaries have started using a new temperature and moisture level monitoring system, improving the efficiency of grain storage management.

In the temperature control room of Jiading Grain Reserve Depot in Anting Town, staff now need only press a button at any time to collect temperature and moisture data for all the 18 depots within two minutes.

Wang Jun’an, vice general manager of the granary, said staff pay special attention to high temperatures recorded in the system, as big changes in this indicate problems with the grain.

Before the new system was introduced, collecting figures for the whole granary would take half a day. And staff had to measure the temperature manually, which was inefficient and error-prone.

Now, in each depot there are 48 six-meter-long measuring lines to measure both temperature and moisture and send the figures to the central system.
