Plans for a ‘green lung’ approved by experts
The plans for the Jiading New City (Malu Town) countryside area construction project have passed experts’ assessment and detailed information has been released to the public recently.
According to the blueprint of the 27.59-square-kilometer area, a number of ecological projects, including Qianmu Seedling Base, Meihua Pool Park, Wenzaobang Forest and Mother River Cultural Park, will start construction before 2035. The forest coverage rate of the area will reach 20 percent.
The planning involves eight villages outside the urban development area of Jiading New City (Malu Town) including Dayu, Dahong, Jianbang, Chencun, Lijia, Beiguan, Baoqiao and Lixin. The plans were made in line with the town’s social and economic development plans and the ecological layout.
The countryside area aims to become Jiading New City’s “green lung.” The first step is to make room for the construction of village infrastructure and commercial services by removing inefficient and highly polluting local enterprises, officials said.
The planned eastern area of Jiading New City will accelerate the transformation from a traditional industrial zone to a functional urban area.
The area will focus on the development of industries including design, health, intelligent manufacturing and robotics.
New elements will be added to the “green lung.” Besides parks, woods and ecological corridors, the district will also build canteens, community committees, activity centers, elderly care centers and police offices.
According to the plans, high-quality cultural projects such as the Malu Grape Cultural Village and Jiayuanhai Art Center will be built to add artistic atmosphere and support characteristic agritourism.
Dayu Village is the birthplace of the renowned Malu grapes. Lu Zhugen, a local resident, has lived in Dayu for over 60 years and makes a living by planting grapes. “I want a good surrounding environment which will at the same time raise home prices in the village,” said Lu.
In recent years, the district has been making efforts to improve the ecological environment. The planned countryside area will be built into a backyard garden of Jiading New City.
