Plentiful planting plan leads to growth of the green belt
JIADING'S forest coverage rate has reached 12.4 percent, with a total forest area of 57.52 square kilometers.
When the Shanghai-Nanjing intercity rail and Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway run through Jiading, what greets passengers first is a thriving "green ribbon."
After completing a "green corridor" along the railway lines which totals 0.53 square kilometers, the district will broaden the green belt to 100 meters in width. A forest belt totaling 4 square kilometers which runs along the railway lines for more than 20 kilometers is under planning. The construction work will start at four towns including Anting, Waigang, Jiangqiao and Nanxiang at the end of this month.
Fifteen species of trees such as ginkgo, goldenrain, osmanthus and camphor trees will be planted to separate noise, absorb waste and enhance environment protection.
The construction of green belts at the Jiading sector of Shanghai's Outer-Ring Road is also in full swing. Green plantation work at the north of Jinhua Road and Taopu Road in Jiangqiao Town, which totals 0.07 square kilometers, has almost finished.
In the next phase, the district will put emphasis on finishing green belts of 0.21 square kilometers in the remaining areas of the town.
"It's good to have trees and grass," said a resident surnamed Hu who walked with his granddaughter at a green belt area in Nanxiang Town. "The scenery is almost the same as the park."
This year, Jiading will invest around 900 million yuan (US$136.98 million) in 28 green belt projects. The new green areas will reach 1.08 square kilometers.
The construction of "Four Grand Sceneries" of Jiading New City, which totals 2.09 million square meters, has finished more than 1.7 square kilometers so far.
