Poly releases New Year season’s program

CONDUCTOR Christoph Eschenbach as well as pianist Tzimon Barto will join with the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchester to stage a concert at Shanghai Poly Grand Theater on January 1, unveiling the theater’s New Year Season.
The theater will also put on a comedy, highlights from Kunqu Opera “The Palace of Eternal Life,” and classic ballet “Swan Lake” by the Russian National Ballet Theatre.
The theater will stage other traditional opera performances as well, including Yueju Opera “The Butterfly Lovers” and “Mei Lanfang Classics,” highlights from Mei Lanfang’s classical works, officials said.
Cai Zhengren, star of Kunqu Opera “The Palace of Eternal Life,” said the highlights are a condensation of a complete Kunqu Opera.
The woman playing the heroine, Zhang Jingxian, said the performance will offer a new experience to audiences.
