THE China-German Electric Car Forum was held on June 2 at Tongji University and the China-German Electric Car Joint Research Center was established on the same day. Supported by six German and four Chinese universities, including Munich Industrial University, Tongji University and Tsinghua University, the center will do joint research on vehicle motors, batteries and electronics.
Gear JV plant
A NEW joint production plant involving Magneti Marelli and Shanghai Automobile Gear Works has been set up in Jiading's industrial automotive district. The plant will mainly manufacture AMT auto transmission and accessories and is expected to produce 310,000 auto transmissions annually by 2014.
Wiring works
THE Shanghai research center of Sumitomo Electronic Wiring Harness Company was established in Jiading recently. It is the seventh research center for Sumitomo, a world top 500 company. Combining design, development and production of wiring harness, the Shanghai research center will introduce advanced electric design systems for two Volkswagen models.
Filter spending
MANN-HUMMEL Cooperation of Germany recently established its China headquarters in Jiading. The project investment is valued at 365 million yuan (US$53.44 million) and the output value for the first year is expected to be 700 million yuan. Mann-Hummel is one of the world's largest automotive filter manufacturers.
6 new projects
AMERICAN investment group Keiretsu Forum recently settled in Shanghai International Automobile City. The first Shanghai Investment and Financing Seminar by Keiretsu was also held, introducing six high-tech projects involving nuclear equipment, super power batteries and nanometer analysis reagents.
New base
SHANGHAI Auto Transmission Company recently held a foundation stone laying ceremony for a new production base in Jiading Industrial Zone. Total investment in the project is about 3.8 billion yuan (US$556 million). The DCT auto transmission joint production plant and design company will be built first.
Testing talks
THE International Auto Waste Control Academic Seminar was held in Shanghai on June 7. The seminar was hosted by the National Motor Vehicle Quality Supervision and Testing Center located in Jiading. From 2010 on, China will fully implement Chinese IV standards for vehicle exhaust emissions.
