Products fly Jiading flag
S traw-plaited works, fog jets and holographic imaging technologies from Jiading District are being exhibited or applied on site during the Shanghai World Expo.
Handmade straw-woven items are on display at the Pavilion of Public Participation. A work called "Expo Tie" is the highlight.
Designed by Ji Xuecheng and Gu Yuexiang, two local straw-weaving artists, the work conveys a unique Jiading flavor to visitors by its simple but delicate look.
The "Expo Tie" is as small as a palm and required intricate skills to make. The artists took three days to finish the item.
"I was so honored on learning that my work would be exhibited at the Expo Park," Gu said. "It is also an honor for the straw-weaving art of Xuhang Town."
Gu is now busy making straw-woven items such as Haibao, the Expo mascot, and handbags. They will be provided as gifts to VIP guests.
At the World Meteorological Pavilion, an installation featuring 4,100 fog jets has drawn people's attention. The technology was developed by Shanghai Tengbang Environmental Science and Technology Co Ltd, located in Jiading.
The technology is also in use at two-thirds of the 16 outdoor cooling areas in the Expo Park.
At the Pakistan Pavilion, visitors can learn about the country's culture and development by reading E-books and watching films at an indoor cinema with a sphere curtain.
These multimedia technologies, including holographic imaging, are all produced by Shanghai Yaowei (Group) Industry Co Ltd.
Only 10 years old, Yaowei has developed rapidly and become a leading company in intellectual transport and safe production monitoring.
The three E-books feature a total of 2,000 pages and took almost five days for two engineers to complete. The monitoring system, alarm system and Web phones at the pavilion were also installed by Yaowei.
The most eye-catching element at the Japan Pavilion is a "breathable" low-carbon environment-friendly concept. Using environmental control technology, the natural resources of air, water and light are fully utilized.
Shanghai Chengjian Construction Group won the construction contract of the Japan Pavilion last February and installed the technology.
More Jiading elements displayed are the electric vehicles that serve as shuttle buses. They were designed by Jiading enterprises.
