Proud moment for aerospace employees
CHINA successfully launched its unmanned space module Tiangong-1, or "Heavenly Palace" on September 29.
For more than 50 employees from Shanghai Aerospace Electronics Co Ltd, which is based in Jiading District, it was a moment to savor and enjoy.
They had participated in the research and manufacturing of the space lab since 2007, working on the life-support system, propulsion system and other related projects.
The life-support system is crucial as it ensures astronauts' lives in the space lab. It includes a blood pressure monitor, heart and lung monitor, and also monitors of the dust inside lab.
When the company took over the task to develop it, they had neither a mature product to learn from, nor mature technology to use. A special team was then formed to do research on the existing products in the market, and adjust them to improve reliability and security.
Safety, high accuracy and reliability should never be neglected in any test. On one occasion, a designer found that the time data on a machine slightly fluctuated. Although it was within the accepted standard, the designer did not stop questioning it. After repeated tests and analysis, it was finally confirmed to be a software timing problem.
The designer solved the problem and prevented it from happening again. He published his conclusion in an in-house publication to share with his colleagues.
The senior researchers have made double contributions for the space cause.
Because they did not only work as backbones in the research, but also brought about a new generation of researchers since most of the members in the research team are from the post-1980s. This young generation has gradually taken over the task of researchand development.
