Public greening projects add color to local lives
WITH the completion of Shigang Mentang and Chenjiashan, two large-scale green belts in Jiading District, green has become a key color on this land.
Currently, the district's green coverage stands at 38.2 percent and per capita public green area has reached 16.3 square meters.
Wu Huifang who lives at Nanyuan Community does morning exercises every day at Nanyuan Park, which is only 50 meters away from her home. The park features almost 30 types of fitness equipment.
"Many neighbors like to do morning exercise here. There are plenty of equipment within a fine green environment," Wu said. "It has become my routine to do exercise here."
Officials from the landscaping department said that the park is not only a scenic spot, but also a place with multiple functions that benefit more citizens. The local government will further explore its functions.
Currently, Jiading boasts 12 parks, among which Guyi Garden, Qiuxiapu Garden and Huilongtan Park feature a strong cultural and traditional touch. Exercising facilities of other nine parks are being equipped, and two exercise walkways will be added to Xincheng Park and Malu Park within this year. As for Guyi Garden, an amount of 180,000 yuan (US$28,480) has been invested to renovate its south hall, which will later display tea culture.
A growing number of children have started playing at the green belt at Jiading Round-the-city River. Meanwhile, senior citizens also gather here to fly kites. The local government has built corridors and benches for the residents to enjoy leisure hours here.
In recent years, 16 green belts have been completed in Jiading, totaling more than 3,000 square meters. This year, the landfills on Xinghua Road and an old factory at Juyuan New Area will also be turned into green belts, adding the community's green area by 20,000 square meters. Reconstruction on Qiuxiapu Garden is in planning stage now.
This year, the district will expand its forestland by 33.34 hectares and more than 30 kinds of arbors will be introduced to the district.
Shanghai-Nanjing Railway and Beijing-Shanghai Intercity Railway will also take on a new look with green belts added along the railways within the district.
