Public projects completed as promised
JIADING District has delivered on promises made at the fifth session of the Fourth Jiading District People's Congress to implement 10 projects to enhance the health, living environment and recreational opportunities of local residents.
The projects included the new Jiading Maternity and Child Health Hospital and Nanxiang Hospital, 30 new commercial networks in rural areas, 27 activity centers for senior citizens, three community public sports grounds, 30 village health clinics. The government also expanded low-rent housing and added 30,000 new jobs.
The new hospitals are now in their final phase of completion with interior decorating and the installation of equipment. They're expected to open its doors later this year.
The maternity hospital was designed with a humanized atmosphere. It includes sitting areas in labor rooms, which allow mothers-to-be to call their families at any time. It also provides space for family members who want to attend the births.
By the end of 2010, 494 low-income families had received 3.7 million yuan (US$564,300) in rent subsidies, while the number of these families was 388 yuan the year before.
With the help of a monthly subsidy of 700 yuan, unemployed and divorced mother Li Hui, 40, rented a 70-square-meter apartment near Tongchuan Road and for the fist time has private rooms for both herself and her child.
With the start of Metro Line 11 in 2010, Jiading District erected 56 bus shelters to service the line and added 90 buses, including seven new routes linking with Metro stations.
The district also opened its first public transport website and held three public hearings on the adjustment of bus lines.
