Residents, enterprises sharing the greatest love

The 24th 鈥淕reatest Love under the Sky鈥 charity event drew to a close last month. A larger number of citizens in Jiading participated in voluntary services and fundrasing activities.

Xincheng Road Community of Jiading organized a fundraising activity. Around 55 volunteers were on the streets to ask for citizens鈥 participation.

A volunteer surnamed Liu asked her 8-year-old daughter to put the money she raised into a fundraising bag. 鈥淚 hope she can cultivate her mind of love, which is important for her growth,鈥 said Liu.

According to social worker Dai Yijue from Jiazhong Community, a resident donated 2,000 yuan (US$319.5) at the neighborhood committee and wanted her name withheld. By January 26, Jiading Town Community had raised 1.17 million yuan in total.

Besides community residents鈥 enthusiastic participation, local enterprises also share their love with people in need. Shanghai Shenghuabo Co Ltd has participated in the 鈥淕reatest Love under the Sky 鈥 charitable event for six years with an average of 10,000 yuan raised by the company every year.

At a charity bazaar at Shanghai Jiading No.1 High School on January 11, a wide variety of goods were for sale, including crafts, books, stationery, plants, handmade dishes and small accessories provided by students and teachers.

鈥淗elping needy people is an important part of social responsibilities,鈥 said a student surnamed Gu. A total of 11,350 yuan was raised with the money to be collected by the Shanghai Charity Foundation.

Nanxiang Town Community Health Service Center hosted a volunteer medical consultation activity at a local plaza. Experts from the Children鈥檚 Hospital of Shanghai, the Shanghai 6th People鈥檚 Hospital, Shanghai 10th People鈥檚 Hospital, Tongji Hospital, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital and Ruijin Hospital North Branch offered medical consultation services in the areas of the prevention and control of spring and winter infectious diseases, food and drug safety and health maintenance.

After receiving consultations, participants put money into the fundraising box in return. All the funds raised during the event were counted by volunteers from the Jiading branch of Shanghai Agricultural Bank and then remitted to the Shanghai Charity Foundation. The money has been donated to the needy families before Spring Festival.
