Residents register for home-call doctor benefits
More than 420,000 residents from 210,000 Jiading households have signed up for the family doctor service, accounting for over 70 percent of the district鈥檚 population.
The service greatly benefits senior residents as family doctors not only provide regular home services to monitor their health conditions but also will show up simply in answer to a call.
The district aims to set up another 30 family doctor clinics by the end of November 2015.
Waigang Town resident Chen Jinkui, 71, suffered from a glucose level of 27.7, compared to the alert level of 6.5, which forced him to avoid anything containing sugar. To better control his glucose level, he needed to spend hours traveling to and from hospital.
However, the situation changed after Chen signed up for the family doctor service.
His doctor, Gan Huiwen, visits at least three times a week and the focused treatment of his glucose problem has resulted in it dropping down to around 5.8.
Besides basic medical services, family doctors can also provide medical treatment that was only available at China鈥檚 largest and best hospitals. They use a remote medical treatment system and ECG monitoring system.
The family doctor clinic is normally close to residential areas, making it easy for residents to drop in whenever necessary.
The clinic is equipped with basic medical facilities, enabling doctors to provide diagnoses and health care consultation. Personalized health care services and VIP services are also available.
The Municipal Population and Family Planning Commission plans to allocate at least 50 percent of the hospitals鈥 expert registration numbers to family doctors to ensure medical resources are better distributed.
Residents can also enjoy extra prescription services. For example, patients in stable health can get a prescription lasting for two to four weeks.
When local clinics or community hospitals run short of certain prescribed-only medicines, patients can have their medicine delivered directly to a local pharmacy or clinic as long as they have signed up for the family doctor service.
