Roads ahead
JIADING will invest 1.77 billion yuan (US$259.23 million) this year to build or repair seven roads. Currently, 13 roads in the district are under construction. Nine will be finished and open within the year.
More water
Jiading North Waterworks will be in trial operation in late April. It will provide 150,000 tons of water daily. With an investment of 330 million yuan (US$48.33 million), the waterworks is equipped with cameras and online monitoring devices to ensure quality and processing.
Relief funds
Jiading branch of Shanghai Charity Foundation had raised 314,000 yuan (US$45,987) by April 16 for quake-hit Yushu in Qinghai Province. Meanwhile, the Red Cross Society of Jiading, together with Shanghai Sheep Industry Co Ltd, donated 1,000 cotton wadded quilts worth 754,000 yuan to the quake-hit area.

The bell tower at 100 Qinghe Road in Jiading District has been undergoing renovation since April 6 for the first time in 20 years. The tower is currently one of the major landmarks of Jiading.
Expo spirit
Bai Guangrong, a senior living at Xincheng Road community, recently carved Haibaos, the mascot of World Expo 2010 Shanghai, in various ethnic styles on 56 ceramic plates to show his support for the Expo. On April 14, elementary school students from Nanxiang Town painted stones with Expo themes. On April 19, 100 young people gathered at Jiading Industrial Zone to play dominos in a formation designed to replicate the Expo logo.
Farmer houses
A CONSTRUCTION project of 600,000 square meters for centralized residential areas for farmers at Waigang Town in Jiading will be kicked off in May. Six designs have been released to the public. The best will be selected by experts in consultation with the farmers.
