SAIC pins hopes on innovation and quality
SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle Co posted a sales of 90,635 units in the first half of the year, an increase of 12.2 percent compared to the same period in 2011, whose growth rate has even exceeded some of the leading joint-venture carmakers in China.
SAIC officials said the results gained in the face of uncertain economic times comes from its strategy of prioritizing on the quality and self-innovation.
At the recently concluded 18th Ningbo Auto Show, the MG3 car proved popular among visitors. The interior components in this British-style car meet the standards of cars in a higher class.
The mid-size Roewe 550, Roewe 350, and even the A0-class MG3 offer quality synonymous with B-class vehicles, which is the "backyard" of the joint venture brands.
High quality brings high returns. Take the MG3 as an example, since its release in the first half of this year, monthly sales have consistently breached 4,000 units, taking the second place in the domestic A0-class market.
SAIC said it continues to attach great emphasis on research and development, with its R&D personnel reaching 1,000 in 2007 and 2,800 this year. The figure is expected to rise to 3,500 in 2014.
SAIC focuses its R&D resources on higher and core automotive technology. With the aim of being at the global forefront of automotive technology, SAIC adheres to the spirit of independent innovation.
In April, Roewe 950 was released. It integrates TGI cylinder direct injection technology, six-speed silky automated manual gearbox and many of the world's leading core technologies.
In the first three months after its release, Roewe 950 won the best new car award at the Beijing Auto Show.
The orders have flooded in for the snazzy vehicle.
