School rallies round to help a pupil in hospital
TEACHERS and pupils from Taoyuan Primary School in Nanxiang Town visited student Yu Le at Jishuitan Hospital in Beijing on April 25 bringing gifts and greetings cards.
They also brought 140,000 yuan (US$22,950) donated by the school, the Nanxiang township government, Jiading No. 2 Middle School, Guyi Primary School and Nanxiang Primary School.
Ten-year-old Yu was diagnosed with bone cancer last October.
After 15 days’ treatment at Shanghai Children’s Hospital, he was transferred to Jishuitan Hospital in the capital and is currently undergoing a second round of chemotherapy. He had to have part of his left leg amputated.
Yu’s parents are migrant workers in Shanghai and the medical treatment has left them a debt of more than 400,000 yuan.
Yu had a broad smile on his face when he saw his teachers and classmates, who had brought him greeting cards and small gifts. He also watched a video his classmates had made offering him blessings and encouragement.
However, his parents found it hard to smile. They were told the cancer had spread.
His mother said: “We are deeply moved by the caring of society as we are just ordinary migrant workers in Shanghai. I hope my son can recover quickly and return to his school.”
His classmates and teachers said they are anticipating for Yu’s recovery and hoping for his speedy return to campus.
