STARWOOD Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc, one of the world's largest hotel and resort groups, has signed an agreement to involve in the management of a luxury hotel in Jiading District. Construction on the Sheraton, Jiading's first five-star hotel, is set for completion by September next year in Juyuan New Area.
Labor unions set up
Seven Fortune 500 companies, including Volvo and Fiat, and five domestic enterprises, including Woyo.com, have recently inaugurated labor unions with over 10,000 employees participating. It's the first time in Jiading District that several foreign companies have set up labor unions simultaneously.
2 billion yuan injection
Fifteen companies, including Doyle Dane Bernbach, Hejun Group and Universe Media Ltd, have signed investment agreements totaling 2 billion yuan to settle in Jiading Industrial Zone. The agreements were signed at an investment promotion meeting held in Beijing recently to attract cultural and information enterprises. More than 100 such companies were presented at the meeting.
New hospital for Anting
Shanghai No. 1 Construction Co Ltd, which built Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Jin Mao Tower, signed a contract with the No. 3 Affiliated Hospital of the No. 2 Military Medical University to build Oriental Hepatobiliary Surgical Hospital's Anting branch. The Anting branch consists of a new hospital and a national liver cancer research center covering an area of 230,000 square meters at a cost of about 1.6 billion yuan (US$250 million). It will be completed in about two years.
Grapes purchased
US-based Walmart signed an agreement with Juyang Grape Cooperative in Anting Town to purchase grapes directly from farmers. This is a new distribution method that will enable farmers to supply agricultural products directly to supermarkets, wet markets and convenience stores. Under the agreement, Juyang Grape Cooperative will supply about 360 tons of grapes to more than 40 outlets of Walmart in eastern China annually.
