Slowly growing into a giant

AT a recent weekend party, a friend of mine brought his nephew to Anting Town. The boy was curious and kept asking questions about this or that during our conversation. When we were talking about the automobile exhibition, the boy said excitedly: "I know the automobile exhibition center. It is in Anting. My dad used to take me there. I saw a lot of little colorful cars there. I also saw some race cars. They just drove away like the wind. That's so funny!"

He laughed for a long time and our topic shifted to Shanghai International Automobile City.

Anting Town, a place that holds the memory of past generations, also carries the dream of mine. Old people said that in the 1970s, Anting was such a small town that there were only two lines of houses on both sides of Anting Old Street. Everywhere else, it was just farmland. In 2001, it was decided that Shanghai International Automobile City would be constructed in this place.

The name International Automobile City always brings me a magic feeling. Sometimes he is like a kid pouring different colors on this land; sometimes he is like a gentleman talking and behaving politely; sometimes he is like a sage thinking and writing down his ideas. But now I think, Shanghai International Automobile City is like nothing but a growing youth. He is fresh, vigorous and creative. Maybe he's not mature yet, but he is growing. He is strong and charming, and attracting more and more people into his arms.

I believe that eventually, he'll grow up as a giant.
