Snacking time with opening of bazaar’s first phase
The first phase of Maoqiao Bazaar will open to public in the first half of the year, according to a press conference by Huating Town in Jiading District.
With a total investment of over 100 million yuan (US$15.63 million), Maoqiao Bazaar’s first phase will include five markets and three projects.
The five markets will cover snacks, folk customs, fruit, fresh flowers and culture. The three projects (homestay, cruise ships and restaurants) will make it more fun and convenient for visitors.
In three to 10 years, a series of projects will be wrapped up to make the area an ideal resort destination, including hotels in the forest, an outdoor activity base, Huazhang Temple and spaces for meditation.
The construction of Maoqiao Bazaar began in June last year and will be completed in three phases. After the completion of the first phase, visitors will be able to enjoy snacks from Shanghai as well as Guangdong, Hainan, Fujian and Shaanxi provinces.
There are plans to provide 108 snacks from all over China for visitors on a snack street along Hengtang River.
Apart from snacks, visitors will also be able to see and take part in traditional handcrafts and learn the skills of making rice, noodles, edible oils, sauces, cloths and garlic dishes.
In the cultural area, visitors will be able to visit bookstores and an art gallery.
A fresh flower market will cover an area of around four soccer fields. Visitors will be able to buy flowers, learn about gardening and take part in scientific activities.
The Huating township government also plans to develop a dozen projects over the next three years that will include an orchard, a European-style farm and entertainment facilities.
So far there are 22 countryside scenic spots in Jiading, mainly in the north of the district.
The district plans to invest in seven of them to make them into leisure brands of influence in the Yangtze River Delta Region.
