CHRISTMAS in Jiading District was full of happiness, cheer and fun for all.
The district boasts several hundred foreign enterprises. Before Christmas, pine trees at Citizens Square in Anting Town had been decorated with silver and red lights. It contributed to the Christmas feel in the town.
Shops in the district could not wait to sell Christmas products and many started sales a month ahead of the holiday. A variety of Christmas trees, Santa caps and Christmas stockings were displayed in shops in eye-catching locations. Christmas songs such as White Christmas and Christmas Eve were played repeatedly.
At Century Lianhua Supermarket on Chengzhong Road, a Christmas house was set up. The house was full of dolls in red.
On Christmas Eve, people wearing Santa hats appeared in almost every corner of the district. Parents dressed their children up in Santa jackets and took pictures of their kids posing next to a Christmas tree.
Shouly's Bistro Bar on Changji Road has always been a "beachhead" for expats in Jiading. It was a bit quiet during Christmas since many expatriates went home for the holiday.
DIO, a German, is the pub's owner. He has been living in Jiading for 15 years. He married a Chinese woman and has a daughter.
"I'm completely localized," DIO said. "Christmas time is the only moment that reminds me that I am a German."
Christmas Eve in Jiading also featured a dance at Shanghai University's Jiading campus. Belly dance and jazz music proved to be the highlights of the night.
