Spreading culture to the masses
CONCRETE efforts have been made by the Jiading government to build itself into a city-level demonstration area of public cultural service.
Due to these efforts, residents are enjoying a richer cultural life.
At Xiaomiao Village in Xuhang Town, several million yuan has been invested to build an activity center, reading rooms and basketball courts for farmers.
More than 100 villagers use these facilities each day.
In the past, many farmers could hardly find a place to enjoy a cultural life after retirement. Nowadays, many join local dancing teams and practice daily.
Lu Xiufen from Xiaomiao Village is one of them. She says her health has improved and she has become more open after practicing dancing for six months.
Up till now, 73 such facilities have been completed in the district.
In Juyuan New Area, a "culture menu" is sent to residents each month. It includes information on the latest cultural events taking place in the community. Volunteers deliver the "menus."
"I used to get the information by asking around," says Chen Lihua, a resident living in Juyuan.
"But now the information comes right to my home."
Juyuan also boasts 20 registered cultural teams, including a youth singing team. The team members do rehearsals and perform voluntarily.
In Anting Town, three training bases have been established for the youngsters to learn the Chinese folk art forms, encouraging more children to grasp these folk arts.
Meanwhile, in Malu Town, 17 "art classes" have been held. Professional teachers in opera and drama circles give the classes.
