Student choir wins applause
JIADING Experimental Primary School student choir gave a performance at the Musikverein Vienna in Vienna on February 5, winning applause with the dance "Song of Tomorrow."
After the gala, Bai Yang, cultural counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vienna, said: "The performance has not only inherited the Chinese culture, but also made some innovations."
A total of 20 original programs performed by teenagers from across the nation were selected for the gala show.
The performance started with the "Song of Tomorrow," which was composed by Yi Fenglin and Wang Wei'er. The dance describes a story about a lazy boy, a procrastinator postponing everything to tomorrow. He was enlightened in a special dream, where he met the students in the ancient times. They told him what he would be like in the future if he kept on his lazy life. Finally, with the help of his classmates, he becomes an excellent young pioneer who does well in school. The dance showcases the traditional Chinese notion "seize the day and seize the hour."
The choir "seized the time" to rehearse after getting the invitation from Vienna late last year.
Since the students should prepare for final examinations at that time, they had to rehearse after school each day. Many parents also joined in the rehearsals.
"We didn't expect to be invited onto the world stage like this," Yi Fenglin said. "But all in all, it was reasonable. Jiading has spared no efforts to develop the choir. The 'Song of Tomorrow' is among a batch of original songs composed by us teachers. The dance won the golden prize at a national teenage dance contest last year."
Yi believed the performance will further inspire more students to become interested in joining the choir. The choir intends to expand beyond the school and include more members of the community.
