Swedish auto giant sets up headquarters in Jiading
GEELY-OWNED Volvo Cars Corp opened its new headquarters in Jiading District recently. Also unveiled in Jiading was a Volvo auto technical center.
The company also started to build assembly plants in Daqing, Heilongjiang Province, and Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
According to officials from Volvo Cars, although the company has no plans to build an assembly plant in Jiading at present, there is such a possibility in the future.
Li Shufu, chairman of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, said last August that Geely was considering to build three new assembly plants in Jiading, Daqing and Chengdu. After that, the two plants in Daqing and Chengdu began construction.
"From the bottom of my heart, I'd like to build the first Chinese assembly plant in Shanghai," Li said. "In Shanghai everything is well prepared. Given the consideration of National Development and Reform Commission's demand on productivity distribution nationwide, we decided to open only two plants in Daqing and Chengdu now."
The new headquarters of Volvo Cars Corp in Jiading is its administrative center in China. It is subordinated to its Swedish headquarters.
Nowadays, its Chinese headquarters has developed from a national sales company to a headquarters with multi-functions.
Its business scope covers product development, manufacturing, quality control, procurement, sales, marketing and customer services.
Its technical center focuses on design, research and development of high-end vehicles, electric vehicles and new-energy vehicles. Cooperating closely with its Swedish headquarters, it develops vehicles catering to Chinese consumers' tastes.
Volvo's settlement in Jiading is much due to the attraction of a sound investment environment in Jiading. The local government has provided great support to the company.
Meanwhile, Volvo Cars has brought development opportunities to spare parts manufacturers in Jiading. The company's procurement and production process will be carried out strictly in line with what the Swedish headquarters implements. Volvo welcomes standard auto parts enterprises in Jiading to join as its suppliers.
